Training for fall events

I have started my training for the fall. I am challenging my family to do the same. I started by running three times a week for about 5-6 miles each time. Last night I looked down at my watch because I was hoping that I was well into the workout. Only 7 minutes had passed. Now that is not what you would call good! I had only begun the workout. I am considering entering a Houston race in early October, but my mom is sick and I do not think I can get prepare for it. October has already arrived!
