Shoes and their importance - black toenails
I have learned how to tie my shoes! I bet you thought you knew how to do this little task, like I did, but guess what? I had to have a toenail problem before I discovered that I did not know how to tie shoes! Runners World has a short video on how to avoid black toes. I am changing to this method. Also keep in mind that runners are advising to purchase shoes 1/2 size bigger than normal street shoes to also prevent this problem.
I still have the toenail issue and it hurts if I bump it into something but it is not interfering with running right now. I have been told that I will probably lose the nail in about two weeks.
Long distance running has its special considerations.

Update - three weeks afterwards, the nail is 3/4 disconnected but I cannot get it off altogether. So I am continuing to use a bandaid to keep the nail secured to my toe. It sometimes hurts with the wrong casual shoe, so I still have to watch what I wear. Fortunately, my running shoes are secure and I do not have any problems with the toe when running.
